Find a church

You can read every word I write here and still be missing the thing you most need.

The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone, or online. It is meant to be lived among people who will sing beside you, pray for you, correct you when you drift, and carry you when you cannot stand. The writer to the Hebrews puts it plainly: “Let us not neglect to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encourage one another” (Hebrews 10:25). A blog can teach. Only a church can hold you.

So if these studies have stirred something in you, the next step is not to read more. It is to walk through a door on Sunday.

Where I worship

I am a member of Tokai Community Church in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. It is a family-friendly, Bible-believing church, part of REACH SA. What keeps me there is simple: the Bible is opened and preached, week after week, and Jesus Christ is held up as the centre of everything.

  • Address: 28 Tokai Road, Tokai, 7945
  • Sundays: 08:00, 10:00 and 18:30
  • Phone: 021 715 1104
  • The 10:00 service is livestreamed on YouTube

The 10:00 service has teaching for children from the babies’ room right through to Grade 10, so bring the whole family.

If you have never done this before

Come as you are. There is no dress code, and nobody is watching what you wear. Services run about 75 to 90 minutes. There will be singing, prayer, Bible reading, and a sermon of roughly half an hour. You will not be asked to do anything you are not comfortable with, and if you would rather not sing, do not. Arrive five minutes early and you will find parking and a seat without any fuss.

If the thought of walking in alone puts you off, get in touch with the church beforehand and they will arrange for someone to meet you at the door.

And if you are not in Cape Town

Then find a church near you where the Bible is genuinely opened and taught, where Jesus and his cross are central, and where you will be known rather than lost in a crowd. Do not choose on the strength of the music or the building. Ask what they preach.
